Brothers Jack (Bruce Lawrence) and Neal (Joe Sowerbutts) have never gotten along, and it apparently goes much deeper than they are pretty much opposites in type: Jack's the manly man, the fit outdoorsy type of person, while Neal's a bit of a nerd who prefers books to people - which is only one of the reasons Jack constantly teases him. So going on a camping trip to the beach together, with only Jack's wife Matilda (Charlotte Mounter) with them as a mediator. While camping, the brothers' conflict only gets all the more heated when Jack goes surfing while Neal goes exploring ... and finds a severed hand. And when Jack sees it, he pretty much forces Neal to put it back, not wanting to get into trouble. But then near where the hand was found Neal finds a briefcase, containing something that might end all their troubles. Taking it with them might be a bit illegal of course, but worth it. So finally the brothers have something to bond over - but ultimately it strains their relationship even more, especially when Matilda has ideas that might not be in line with the brothers' ...
Ghost Nets is several things at once, family drama, crime story, psycho thriller - and it succeeds blending them seamlessly as it doesn't rely on genre tropes but its own strong story with all its macabre details, quirks and twists, and it's helped by a subtle directorial effort, awesome locations that really serve the story, and of course strong performances by all involved.
Totally worth a look!

Our First Review: From www.blazingminds.co.uk

Ghost Nets a Thrilling Tale of MysteryFebruary 27, 2016
In Ghost Nets, Jack (Bruce Lawrence), his partner, Matilda (Charlotte Mounter) and his brother, Neal (Joe Sowerbutts) seek a surfer’s quiet getaway, at a deserted beach. What they discover on that beach has the potential to change their lives forever.
Mark Bousfield is a successful independent filmmaker whose previous films have screened at Cannes and Edinburgh and is the writer and director of Ghost Nets. Bousfield raised the funds through Kickstarter, a crowd funding website which helped fund hit television series Veronica Mars (Rob Thomas, 2004 – 2007) and is currently raising funds for Spike Lee’s new project, The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint. Ghost Nets has since been submitted to film festivals of Edinburgh, Port Townsend and Atlanta Shortsfest.
Ghost Nets was shot on the coast of Kent, at Joss Bay, a beautiful location that provides entrancing visuals throughout the film. The camerawork (Duncan Wright) and cinematography (Jordan Ford) capture the beauty, of the environment.
Close ups of the various rock formations along the shore and long shots of labyrinthine cliff-faces that surround the beach with stone corridors leading to the wide, lonely expanse of ocean impress its isolation and mystery.
Ghost Nets – A Thrilling Tale of MysteryThe narrative is a thrilling tale of mystery and the dynamics of family relations. The two brothers share an uncomfortable relationship, each bearing a dislike toward the other and the discovery they make only increases the strain and sense of loathing between them.
Information concerning the details of the discovery and the histories and relationships between the characters is gradually fed to the audience as the narrative progresses, setting an interesting and suspenseful pace to the film. The editing by Roberto Nicastro sets the tone perfectly. The long takes allow the audience to experience the landscape and get a true impression of the characters. The bleakness anticipates a sense of foreboding.
Ghost Nets is an alluring film that successfully holds its audience’s interest with its enigmatic narrative and truly beautiful visuals. The only drawback is the short length of the film (27mins).
At the point where tension is really building and excitement peaks, the story ends. A feature length version of this visually stunning film would enable Bousfield to expand upon the characters, theme and plot.

Special Guest for Ghost Nets Premiere Announced!
Ghost Nets is very pleased to announce that the special guest in attendance at our Kickstarter backer's Premiere will be the Mayor of Canterbury. To have the establishment support us in such a way is fantastic and hopefully will pave the way for filmmakers in the area to be more connected with the powers that be.
Canterbury is a city where the arts thrive and it is very much this engagement that drives the opportunities for creators and innovators. So thank you very much for agreeing to coe and support our little film.

Ghost Nets Rehearsals
This week we had a chance to gather everyone in one place and go through the script, experience the location together and shoot some things for the trailer you see on the splash page of the website. We had a great time and here is a video from the day. Below you can see some video posters of the three main characters...something we thought would be cool to do and bring the project to life! |

1st Assistant Director recruited
We are very lucky to have on board our project Lina Remeikaite. Lina has worked on short film, feature film and commercials over many projects and will bring with her a wealth of experience to make sure we run a tight ship on set.
